Add year-round structure and dramatic texture to your garden with Bergenia ‘Rotblum’. Often called "Elephant’s Ears" due to its large, leathery, paddle-shaped leaves, this hardy evergreen perennial is a true garden workhorse. In spring, sturdy stems emerge carrying clusters of vibrant, deep pink to reddish flowers that are a favorite for early pollinators. One of its best features is the winter transformation: as temperatures drop, the lush green foliage takes on stunning bronze and deep red tones, providing much-needed colour during the coldest months.

Key Features:

  • Striking Evergreen Foliage: Large, glossy leaves provide excellent groundcover and architectural interest throughout all four seasons.

  • Vibrant Spring Blooms: Clusters of bell-shaped, deep pink flowers sit atop thick red stems, brightening up the garden from March to May.

  • Winter Interest: The foliage naturally transitions to beautiful shades of bronze and burgundy during winter, adding "flushed" colour to bare borders.

  • Tough and Versatile: Exceptionally hardy and reliable; it thrives in almost any soil type and is particularly useful for difficult shaded spots.

  • Low Maintenance: Requires very little care once established, making it perfect for busy gardeners or low-effort landscapes.

Care & Usage Instructions:
Bergenia 'Rotblum' is incredibly adaptable, performing well in full sun, partial shade, or even full shade. It prefers moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter, though it is famously tolerant of poor soils. To keep the plant looking its best, simply remove any dead or tattered leaves in late spring after the flowering has finished. Dividing the clumps every 3 to 5 years in autumn or spring will help maintain vigour and ensure a healthy spread.
