Quince (Cydonia) ‘Meech’s Prolific’ Tree – Heavy Cropping Quince

Quince ‘Meech’s Prolific’ is one of the best and most reliable fruiting quinces, known for producing large crops of golden, aromatic fruits even in cooler UK climates. In spring, it bears soft pink-white blossoms that add ornamental charm before developing into fragrant, pear-shaped fruits in autumn. These quinces are excellent for cooking – ideal for making jams, jellies, and the classic quince paste (membrillo). Its compact habit makes it suitable for smaller gardens and orchards.

Season: Pink-white blossom in spring; large golden fruits in autumn; deciduous in winter

Care: Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Benefits from a sheltered position to protect the blossom from late frosts. Prune lightly in winter to maintain shape.

Unique Selling Points: Heavy cropper, reliable in the UK climate, highly fragrant fruits, excellent for preserves, compact growth habit.

History: Introduced in the 19th century by W.W. Meech of New Jersey, USA. Since then, it has become one of the most popular quince varieties worldwide for both home gardens and orchards.

Mature Size (after 10 years): Approx. 3–4 m height × 3 m spread
