Brighten up the darkest corners of your garden with the dependable and stylish Aucuba japonica Rozannie. Often referred to as the Japanese Laurel, 'Rozannie' is a unique, compact evergreen shrub that is highly prized for its versatility. Unlike many other Aucuba varieties, 'Rozannie' is self-fertile, meaning it will produce a spectacular crop of large, bright red berries in the autumn and winter without needing a pollination partner. With its leathery, glossy dark green leaves, it provides a lush, structural backdrop year-round, even in deep shade where other plants struggle.

Key Features:

  • Self-Fertile Berries: Produces abundant, ornamental red berries in winter without the need for a second plant.

  • Ultimate Shade Specialist: One of the best shrubs for dry shade, north-facing walls, and underplanting large trees.

  • Compact & Manageable: A slower-growing, dwarf variety that stays neat and bushy, perfect for small gardens or large pots.

  • Year-Round Structure: Glossy, evergreen foliage provides a consistent green presence through all four seasons.

  • Tough & Resilient: Highly tolerant of urban pollution, salt spray, and various soil types, including heavy clay.

Care Instructions:
Aucuba Rozannie is incredibly easy to grow and performs best in partial to full shade. While it can handle some sun, direct midday light may scorch the leaves. It is happy in most well-drained soils, including dry shade once established. Water regularly during its first growing season to ensure it settles in well. This shrub requires very little pruning; simply remove any wayward or damaged branches in mid-spring. If grown in a container, ensure it has adequate drainage and feed annually with a balanced slow-release fertilizer.
