Cornflower 'Black Ball'

Dark and sexy!!!! This gorgeous Cornflower variety is a deep and mysterious colour that almost looks black on cloudy days and whilst I didn't grow a lot of deeper colours last year, I have been totally persuaded to add more depth into my borders. It adds an extra dimension against the pale pinks and whites so I'm really excited to grow this! Amazing for pollinators and wildlife, great for cutting and bouquets, as well as EDIBLE! Yes, the flowers are edible in salads, baking and in cocktails (yes please!) Cornflowers are simple to grow hardy annuals. Either start off in autumn and keep under cover over winter, or start in early spring in trays and plant out in April/May, or simply direct sow on well prepared ground in May/June and water in well. These look best in large swathes of planting rather than dotted about. Who is in? Join me in growing these beautiful flowers!
