The Deepest Ruby-Red Blooms in the Garden

The Clematis 'Niobe' is a legendary variety, celebrated worldwide for producing some of the richest and darkest red flowers of any clematis. When the large velvety blooms first open, they are nearly black-red, slowly maturing to a brilliant, deep ruby shade. At the heart of each flower lies a cluster of bright golden-yellow anthers, creating a striking contrast against the dark, dramatic petals.

As a proud holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Niobe' is recognized for its stable growth and reliable performance. It flowers freely in early summer and often provides a second flush of blooms in early autumn. Despite its bold appearance, it has a compact and manageable growth habit, making it an excellent choice for growing in large containers on a patio as well as on walls and fences.

Key features:

  • Large, velvety ruby-red flowers (very dark)

  • Contrasting golden-yellow anthers

  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner (Top reliability)

  • Free-flowering in summer and early autumn

  • Thrives in sunny positions

Perfect for:

  • Growing in large pots and containers on the patio

  • Adding deep, dramatic colour to sunny borders

  • Training up obelisks and trellises

  • Gardeners who love bold, red flowers

At The Rose Press Garden, 'Niobe' is our top recommendation for drama. The velvety texture of the petals catches the sunlight in a way that makes the red colour look incredibly deep and luxurious.
