Ignite your garden with the fiery, high-impact colour of Papaver orientalis ‘Brilliant’. This classic Oriental Poppy is legendary for its large, bowl-shaped flowers in a vivid shade of orange-scarlet that practically glows in the sunlight. Each satiny petal features a dramatic, velvety-black blotch at the base, surrounding a dark, prominent central boss. These magnificent blooms sit atop tall, wiry stems and provide a breathtaking focal point in any sunny border during early summer.

Key Features:

  • Fiery Scarlet Blooms: Large, crepe-paper-like flowers in a stunning orange-scarlet that commands attention.

  • Dramatic Contrast: Features deep black centres that provide a bold, sophisticated look against the bright petals.

  • Pollinator Magnet: The large, open blooms are a massive draw for bees and butterflies in early summer.

  • Architectural Seed Heads: After the petals fall, the decorative "pepper-pot" seed heads remain, adding interest to the garden or dried arrangements.

  • Hardy Garden Classic: A robust and reliable perennial that returns year after year with increased vigour.

Care & Usage Instructions:
Papaver ‘Brilliant’ performs best in full sun and thrives in deep, well-drained soil. Like most poppies, it has a long taproot and prefers not to be moved once established. Important Note: Oriental Poppies go through a natural dormancy period after flowering; the foliage will turn yellow and die back in mid-summer. Simply cut the plant back to ground level once this happens. To keep your borders looking full, plant them alongside late-summer bloomers like Hardy Geraniums or Dahlias that will cover the gap as the poppy rests.
