Pyracantha Orange Glow, commonly known as Firethorn, is a powerhouse of year-round interest and a must-have for any wildlife-friendly garden. This vigorous, evergreen wall shrub is loved for its dual-season display: in late spring, it is smothered in clouds of tiny, fragrant white flowers that are a magnet for bees. These are followed in autumn by spectacular, dense clusters of brilliant orange berries that persist well into winter, providing a vital food source for birds like thrushes and blackbirds. With its glossy dark green foliage and sharp thorns, it also makes an excellent, impenetrable security hedge or screen.

Key Features:

  • Year-Round Interest: Brilliant orange berries in autumn/winter and delicate white flowers in spring.

  • Evergreen Foliage: Deep green, glossy leaves provide consistent structure and screening through all seasons.

  • Wildlife Hero: Provides nectar for pollinators in spring and essential berries and nesting sites for birds in winter.

  • Natural Security: Features sharp thorns, making it a perfect choice for boundary hedging or deterrent planting.

  • Versatile Growth: Can be grown as a free-standing shrub, a formal hedge, or trained as a climber against walls and fences.

Care Instructions:
Pyracantha Orange Glow is incredibly tough and will thrive in almost any well-drained soil. It performs best in full sun or partial shade; while it can handle a north-facing wall, flower and berry production will be most prolific in a brighter spot. If training as a climber, tie in the new shoots to a support system as they grow. To maintain its shape and ensure a good berry crop, prune in late spring after flowering, shortening the outward-growing shoots to expose the developing berries. Always wear thick gloves when pruning to protect against the thorns.
